One of the most beautiful experience you can have when you are in Genova is visiting the two hundred years old factory “Pietro Romanengo fu Stefano”. When you enter their factory it will be like making a step back in time and you’ll understand why characters such as Giuseppe Verdi “fell in love” with Romanengo’s sweets or Prince Umberto I required for his wedding with Margherita di Savoia in 1868 a supply of “candled fruit, demi-sucres, elegant bonbons and small metal bonbonieres decorated with pastilles”.
You’ll visit the factory with its old confectionary and chocolate laboratory where their handmade deliciousness are produced in high quality. The confectioners will show you how they coat every single fruit in sugar and glucose syrup candying them for days and weeks preserving colors and flavors, how they make candied fruits, chocolates, fondants and bon bons, dragees, dessert cakes according to the traditions passed down from generation to generation.
