Day 5 – Walking Tour of Genoa historical center and food shops

Amazing walking tour of the historical center of Genoa, discovering the most famous monuments of the town and its ancient food shops! Wandering through the “Carrugi” alleys is a unique experience and by just walking through this maze of historical streets, you will find the “real” Genoa essence. It is the largest medieval old town in Europe, with medieval alleyways and renaissance streets. The noble Rolli Palaces built by local aristocracy in the XV century is protected by UNESCO. The food shops of the historical center are ultra-centenarian: the old “friggitorie” serving friscieu (fried croquettes filled with herbs), farinata, fried fresh seafood eaten at the counter or to take away, the prestigious old pastry cafè where the famous composer Giuseppe Verdi loved to spend his time tasting the pastries and then, the “Pietro Romanengo fu Stefano” old shop.
Possibility to taste some typical street food in Genoa old shops and to relax in an ancient Café.
Dinner free in a suggested local restaurant.
Day 6 – Cinque Terre tour and wine
After breakfast, meeting with a local private tour guide and departure via train to the famous Cinque Terre.
Visit of the two iconic villages of Cinque Terre: Manarola and Vernazza, wandering among the tiny squares and side alleys of the villages, the famous terraced vineyards of Manarola, and reaching the picturesque Vernazza with a romantic walk till the capuchin cloister.
In the afternoon you’ll be welcomed by a local producer who will show you his amazing terraced vineyards overlooking the sea and protected by Unesco. You’ll hear more about the history of this unique wine, how is produced and you’ll have the possibility to taste it with some typical specialties handmade just for you. Tasting the Cinque Terre wine is something not to be missed. We think the wine in this area speaks about The Cinque Terre, the local people who hardly work this land from centuries with passion and fondness.
After visiting the vineyards you will taste typical Cinque Terre wines, paired with a rich buffet of local traditional recipes (for example salted anchovies, vegetable cake, focaccia, pesto sauce). Dinner free in a suggested local restaurant.
Day 7 – Tastes of Portofino: Pesto
After breakfast, meeting with your local private tour guide and departure via train to reach Portofino for a tour of the picturesque villages in the heart of Portofino Natural Park: Santa Margherita and Portofino.
The tour starts in the picturesque village of Santa Margherita Ligure, once called the “salotto” of the entire Gulf with its troumpd’oeil painted palaces. You will live “la dolce vita” walking among charming villas surrounded by elegant gardens and parks. From Santa Margherita you will reach Portofino with a panoramic trip by public boat (weather and sea conditions permitting; otherwise you will take the public bus). Portofino is a small fishing village, which is now the center of élite tourism. You will visit the tiny village with its spectacular castle, the church perched on the cliff and the luxury boutiques.
Your tour guide leaves you, but your tour continues with an exclusive experience in Portofino, reaching by yourself a private terraced garden just above the village (10 minutes’ uphill walk), from which an amazing view of the village and its bay can be admired. Among olive and lemon trees, herbs and vines, you will meet a local skillful woman who will teach you to prepare the famous presto sauce with mortar and pestle. At the end, you will taste the pesto and some traditional local specialties such as focaccia, paired with a glass of wine from Portofino.
Return to Genoa by private driver.
Dinner free in a suggested local restaurant.
