Corniglia is the only village in the Cinque Terre that is not by the sea. This little charming village is located on a hundred of meters high steep promontory and it is the smallest of the five villages, about 245 habitants!
To reach Corniglia, it is necessary to climb the “Lardarina”, a long brick flight of steps composed of 33 flights with 382 steps! They are not very difficult steps, just ensure you have the right shoes on (you should leave the high-heels at home) and take it easy.
I suggest to make the stairs to reach this village because it is really worth it, otherwise follow a vehicular road that, from the station, leads to the village. Sometimes a small bus runs up and down here.
While reaching the village by stairs, stop some minutes and admire the uncontaminated and charming hillside with many vineyards that surrounds the town, the breathtaking panoramic view of the whole coastal line of the Cinque Terre, the transparent and crystalline Mediterranean sea, smell the flowers and enjoy the tranquillity of this place.
Finally, at the top you are greeted with a sign welcoming you to Corniglia and congratulating you on having climbed 382 steps to reach the village.
