THE ITALIAN RIVIERA
The Italian Riviera, where the mountains meet the sea
Liguria, also known as The Italian Riviera, stretches all the way from the French border down to Tuscany. Shaped like an arc, the Italian Riviera faces South (which is why the climate is so mild!).
Right at the centre of the arc is Genoa, the main city.
To the west of Genoa stretches the Western Riviera, known as the Riviera di Ponente whilst to the East of Genoa extends the Riviera di Levante: it is here that you can find famous locations such as Portofino and the villages of the Cinque Terre.
