Enjoy a day in Lucca with your local tour guide and discover one of the most fascinating places in Tuscany while tasting typical food and wine.
Lucca is a fascinating walled medieval city, famous for being the birthplace of the great opera composer Giacomo Puccini. You will experience Lucca starting with a scenic walk along the pedestrian promenade above the walls, admiring beautiful views of the city skyline, and listening to interesting stories. Strolling through the streets of Lucca, you will reach the church of San Frediano and be surprised by the unique Piazza Anfiteatro, an authentic Tuscan treasure built on ancient Roman ruins, where you will have the opportunity to take some beautiful photos.
The walk will continue along Lucca’s main shopping street, characterized by tower houses housing craft shops. You will understand the strong commercial tradition of the city, which was once very famous throughout Europe for its silk production. The experience will continue with the chance to taste some local specialties such as Cecina (a kind of chickpea pizza) or Schiacciata con l’Uvetta (sweet focaccia with sultanas), the traditional Buccellato (bread with aniseed and sultanas), or Torta d’Erbe coi Becchi (a kind of vegetable quiche).
After the break, the tour will take you to the fascinating Duomo di Lucca, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, where you will discover the beloved statue of the Volto Santo, a legendary and emblematic wooden portrait of Christ that attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over the world.
