The Legend of the Sculptor and the Dog

It stands there from centuries, unknown by most. If you pay attention, just near the entrance of San Lorenzo Cathedral in Genoa, you can notice a small dog carved in a column.

According to a legend at the final works of the Catedral, in the 14th century, one of the sculptors dog died. He loved so much that dog and he was so sad that he decided to carve a tiny sculpture of the sleeping dog into the marble at the entrance.

When you go to visit Genoa and San Lorenzo Cathedral, do not forget to find this little sculpture. It’s at head height!
