[nggallery id=18]Last Saturday I participated to a friends’ wedding in Genoa historical centre. The wedding took place in a civil ceremony at Palazzo Tursi, the city hall of Genova.

That day all the guests walked from the couple’s home to Palazzo Tursi in Via Garibaldi. This palace is considered the most important over the Garibaldi Street, a declared Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO. Walking among Genoa’s alleys till Palazzo Tursi was a great decision since every guest could enjoy the city’s beautiful architecture.

The ceremony was performed by the bride’s uncle, who is an officiant. She is very affectionate to her uncle, especially when last March she and her family feared for his life during Japan Tsunami. In fact, he was in Japan for work during that terrible day and he was able to survive to that disaster.

After the ceremony we gathered outside the palazzo and walked along Via Garibaldi to Palazzo della Meridiana where took place the wedding reception.

Palazzo della Merdiana ( translated literally “Sundial Palace”) is a 16th centuary palace and one of the “Palazzi dei Rolli”, a system of 42 Genoese buildings that in 2006 became a Unesco World Heritage Site. The palace is awesome! The sundial drawn on the façade gave the name to both the building and the square below it.

The old palazzo inspired the style of their wedding reception. In fact, the rooms have stunning frescos, big dramatic curtains, high ceilings, so they wanted the tables look elegant with attention to colour, simplicity and accuracy and, they have succeeded!

Before dinner the newlyweds served aperitifs in the beautiful garden on the north side of the building with local food specialities, such as focaccia col formaggio, bruschette with pesto sauce, shrimps, fried vegetables, spumante, wine and more.

It was very atmospheric, thanks also to the two opera singers, who sung the “Ave Maria Schubert”.

For dinner, we were welcomed in a magnificient room where the bride, groom and their families seated in tables close each other. The menu was totally fresh and the couple chose mediterranean dishes, full of flavors.

All the event, from the civil ceremony to the reception wedding at Palazzo della Meridiana has been a special day. I would like to thank these two friends for inviting us to celebrate with them and their families this unique moment.
